Topic (Foundation Subjects) at Park Hill Junior School

(encompassing History, Geography, Art, Design & Technology)

At Park Hill Junior School we want our children to enjoy their learning; develop enquiring minds, develop the personal qualities they need to be good citizens of the world, and develop a sense of their own nationality and culture, at the same time developing a profound respect for the nationalities and cultures of others. Most of all, we want our children to develop all the skills they will need in order to confidently face the world of tomorrow.

Many subjects are taught through cross-year topics and some topics involve the whole of a key stage.  Click here for the year overview showing the topics covered: Topics Scheme of Work overview. At Park Hill Junior School, computing, music & P.E. are taught separately from the Topic Curriculum, however cross-curricular links are established where possible.

Each term we will provide parents with a curriculum overview of the topics to be covered in their child’s class. Parents may then wish to talk about these topics at home with their child, or perhaps arrange a family outing to increase awareness and understanding of a subject.
